Diabetes is a metabolic syndrome causing changes in all bodily functions due to chronically raised blood glucose levels and / or high blood pressure. It affects children and adults.
There are 4 types of medically recognised diabetes:
Type 1 is an autoimmune disease. The pancreas is not able to release insulin as the body’s own immune system has attacked the insulin producing cells.
Type 2 diabetes is a lifestyle problem which is caused by poor eating habits and weight gain.
Type 3 diabetes is known as gestational diabetes, which occurs during pregnancy and disappears after giving birth. If it is not managed carefully during pregnancy complications may occur at birth and both the mother and baby can suffer from this syndrome later in life.
Type 4 diabetes is genetic diabetes which is a chromosome issue. Usually a foetus develops with a chromosome defect but in some instances extreme stress during pregnancy can change the chemistry of the baby leading to diabetes.
During this therapy both the face and feet are stimulated. The therapy differs for each type of diabetes. Proper medical supervision should be in place, however reflex therapy can help as a preventative treatment and for pre-diabetic patients as well, to alleviate many of the complications arising from diabetes such as:
Diabetic eye disease particularly macular degeneration
Neuritis (nerve inflammation)
Loss of sensation in the toes/feet
